I create abstract photographs from the colours, textures and patterns found within natural stone. Working at high magnification, I isolate small sections of each material and transform them into large-scale photographic compositions.

The photographs are primarily concerned with visual form rather than the identity or geological character of the material. At extreme magnification, familiar stone becomes detached from its original context — organic shapes, layers, textures and colours that can be viewed independently of the material itself.

Many of the images are constructed by stitching together multiple photographs to create a single high-resolution composition. This allows me to work at a level of detail that would not be possible in a single exposure.
